- Police use a fixed-wing aircraft to track a speeding Corvette driver on Memorial Day.
- Driver reached 140 mph on I-93, unaware of being followed by the police plane.

A 22-year-old man in Salem, New Hampshire, learned the hard way that you can run, but you can’t hide, especially not when the police have an aerial view of your every move. The driver, speeding at a staggering 140 mph (225 km/h) in a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette C8, might’ve thought he was getting away, but the local authorities had something more effective than a high-speed chase: a fixed-wing aircraft.

The New Hampshire State Police ran a special traffic enforcement initiative on Memorial Day, flying their aircraft over Interstate 93 northbound, just over the border from Massachusetts. Throughout the morning, police observed 111 motor vehicle violations, including speeding, cell phone use, reckless driving, and ‘Move Over’ violations. However, it was a white Corvette that really caught their eye.

At 7:45 a.m., a trooper spotted the Chevy driving at 110 mph (177 km/h). Police on the ground attempted to stop the driver, but he decided to speed up and flee, “recklessly” passing traffic. But, unbeknownst to the driver, he was being tracked by the police aircraft, and was later spotted hitting approximately 140 mph (225 km/h). The plane followed him off the interstate and onto side roads in Windham, where police on the ground were directed to his location.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Brandon E. B. from Salem, Massachusetts, was arrested on charges of reckless driving and disobeying an officer.
The maximum penalty for reckless driving in New Hampshire includes a fine of $620, a 60-day loss of license, and an additional mandatory penalty assessment. The young driver was released on bail and is set to front the Salem District Court on July 17.
Brandon’s Corvette wasn’t the only one breaking the law that day. Police report that 42 other drivers were spotted going 90 mph or faster, and six of those were clocked at 100 mph or more. Memorial Day, it seems, is as much about speeding tickets as it is about barbecues.
