• Chinese buyers can opt for the XT4 with either a 1.5-liter engine or a 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
  • Fierce competition across the country means GM has to make the XT4 as cheap as possible.
  • While production has ended in the US, it’s still possible to acquire a new 2025 XT4 locally.

GM may have officially pulled the plug on the Cadillac XT4 in the U.S. back in January, but the luxury compact crossover is still alive and well in China. In fact, the 2025 XT4 has just launched there, and, unsurprisingly, it’s a lot cheaper than what American buyers would have to shell out for one. How much cheaper? Well, the price tag in China for an XT4 is basically what you’d pay for an entry level small SUV.

In China, the XT4 starts at a mere 159,900 yuan, which translates to about $22,200 at current exchange rates. Compare that to the U.S. starting price of $40,795 for an XT4, and you’ve got a nearly 100% markup. Yes, the Chinese model comes with a smaller 1.5L engine, while the American version gets the larger 2.0L engine as standard, but still, that gap is… huge

Just to put that in perspective, GM’s smallest SUV in the States, the 2025 Chevrolet Trax, begins at $20,500. The Nissan Kicks isn’t much better, starting at $21,520. So, it’s not like American buyers are exactly swimming in a sea of options at bargain prices either.

For those in China who want a little more luxury from their XT4, two higher trims are available. The mid-tier version starts at 179,900 yuan ($25,000), while the flagship model is priced at 189,900 yuan ($26,300). In the U.S., the priciest XT4 model is the Sport AWD, starting at $45,290.

In terms of equipment, the Chinese model looks mostly the same as the American one, although it can be optioned with larger, 20-inch wheels. Found in the cabin is the same 33-inch, 9K ultra-wide curved display that encompasses both the digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen. The XT4 also includes heated, ventilated, and massaging seats and can be optioned with a heated steering wheel and an AKG audio system with active noise cancellation.

Two different engines are available in the Chinese market, compared to the single 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that was offered in the U.S., which produced 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque.

The base powertrain is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with mild-hybrid 48-volt technology, delivering 211 hp and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque. The second engine option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, also equipped with the 48-volt system, producing 237 hp and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. In both cases, the engines are paired with a standard 9-speed automatic transmission.
