With summer just around the corner and many getting ready for outdoor adventures, Hertz has partnered with Stellantis to expand its rental fleet by adding the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, now available in several major cities across the country. For some renters, this could even mean experiencing the Jeep community’s quirky tradition of being “ducked” while behind the wheel.

The Wrangler 4xe has been a big success for Jeep, becoming the best-selling plug-in hybrid in the United States. Given its popularity, it’s surprising that Hertz didn’t add it to its fleet sooner. To make the experience a bit more memorable, the company is offering some renters a taste of Jeep ownership, complete with the ‘Jeep Wave’ and the quirky tradition of “ducking.”

According to Hertz, some renters may find a rubber duck hidden inside their Wrangler 4xe when they pick it up. If you’re one of the lucky few, the duck unlocks perks like exclusive discounts and free upgrades on future Hertz rentals.

All Wrangler 4xes available through Hertz will be 2025 models. With a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four and two electric motors, the 4xe delivers 375 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. It can also operate on pure-electric power for up to 21 miles (34 km) and returns 49 MPG, so it should be pretty easy on the wallets of renters, too.
