- Tata has unveiled the facelifted Altroz subcompact hatchback for the Indian market.
- The model features a redesigned exterior, a fresh interior, and carry-over powertrains.
- Price range of the Altroz starts from a little over $8K, making it a budget-friendly option.
Tata’s latest facelift of the Altroz hatchback is an example of how a little TLC can go a long way. Available only in India (sorry, US and Europe), this budget-friendly model is back with a 2025 facelift, bringing both exterior and interior updates.

The Altroz, which first hit the scene in 2019, was beginning to show its age. Fast forward six years, and it was time for a change. The 2025 version boasts a sharper design, taking inspiration from Tata’s more recent models. Unlike many facelifts that only touch up the front and rear, the Altroz has received updates across its entire profile, with even the sheet metal seeing a refresh.

The new face of the Altroz is instantly recognizable but features smarter headlights and sportier bumper intakes. On the side, the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels are reminiscent of Hyundai, while the fenders and doors gain cleaner surfacing with flush door handles. At the back, the slimmer taillights are connected by a full-width LED strip, while the bumper received a dose of plastic cladding.
A More Refined Interior
The interior has received a significant update as well. The digital cockpit now features dual 10.25-inch displays, paired with a more angular dashboard, a two-spoke steering wheel, and new climate controls borrowed from the Tata Curvv.
The rear bench has been redesigned to a lounge-style with better thigh support, and the rear doors open a full 90 degrees for easier access. All trims come with six airbags as standard, while higher-spec models offer extras like a voice-enabled sunroof, wireless charging, and an 8-speaker Harman audio system.
Tata
Despite the important exterior and interior updates, the powertrain lineup of the facelifted Altroz is carried over from its predecessor. Buyers have the option between a 1.2-liter bi-fuel engine (gasoline and CNG) with 73 hp (74 PS), a 1.2-liter gasoline mill with 87 hp (88 PS), and a 1.5-liter diesel with 89 hp (90 PS). Depending on the powertrain, buyers can get a five-speed manual, a six-speed dual-clutch automatic, or a new five-speed auto, all sending power to the front wheels.

We’re still waiting to see if Tata will release an updated version of the sportier Altroz Racer, which, in its current form, comes with a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine making 118 hp (120 PS).
Prices That Won’t Make Your Wallet Cry
The base Altroz Smart starts at Rs 6.89 lakh ($8,100), which is just Rs 290 more than the pre-facelift version. At the top end, the Altroz Accomplished +S trim will cost you Rs 11.29 lakh ($13,300). These prices may sound laughably low compared to similarly-sized models in North America or Europe, but they’re pretty standard for the Indian market.

In India, the Altroz faces competition from hatchbacks like the Hyundai i20, and the Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza twins. If you’re keeping score, the Suzuki is the budget pick here, starting at Rs 6.70 lakh ($7,900).
