• This GR Corolla Premium originally had a sticker price of $43,228 with destination.
  • Dealers are already pricing manual GR Corollas under MSRP to move inventory
  • For as impressive as the GR Corolla is, it can’t save it from depreciating right off the lot.

The Toyota GR Corolla has quickly become one of the most exciting hot hatches on the market, blending a turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system that delivers handling reminiscent of a rally car. Despite its impressive specs, a 2025 GR Corolla in Omaha, Nebraska, recently failed to sell, despite being delivered just this past March.

This particular GR Corolla is a new 2025 model in Premium trim and cost the original buyer $43,228, including delivery and handling fees. With just 1,000 miles under its belt, it’s just about as new a GR Corolla as you’ll find on the private market, so one may expect bidding to approach the original MSRP. But, as it turns out, that wasn’t the case.

The highest bid n Cars & Bids were it was listed reached just $35,500, falling short of the seller’s reserve price. There are likely a few factors at play here.

For one, the car’s location in Omaha, smack in the middle of the country, may have deterred potential bidders from the coasts. After all, shipping fees to the East or West coasts could add a hefty sum to the total price. Another possibility is that Toyota may have priced the 2025 GR Corolla a bit too high, even with its recent facelift and performance updates.

Cars & Bids

Despite being the recently updated facelifted model with visual and performance improvements, some Toyota dealers have already started selling examples for less than MSRP. It’s also possible that some dealers expect stronger demand for the new 8-speed auto version, prompting them to cut prices of stick shift versions to move them off their lots.

A Depreciating Reality

Ultimately, anyone who purchases a new car should be aware they’re likely to lose quite a bit of money if they decide to sell after just a couple of months. Despite what the Covid-19 bubble may have led some people to believe, cars are and will almost always be depreciating assets. Of course, there are exceptions, but the GR Corolla – at least for now – clearly isn’t one of them.
