- While not a full-blown M car, the M850i still packs a powerful twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8.
- This two-door coupe is finished in Carbon Black and has a $3,350 matte gray exterior wrap.
- The barely used car recently sold for $80,000, despite having an MSRP of around $115,000.
The 8-Series lineup is rumored to be heading for the axe next year, possibly to make room for a revived 6-Series, though BMW insists that’s not the case. It’s a shame either way, because the 8-Series might be the best-looking car the Bavarian company makes right now, especially in coupe form. But like many high-end German cars, it doesn’t take long for depreciation to hit hard.

Let’s take this 2025 BMW M850i xDrive Coupe as an example. It was purchased in December 2024 and had fewer than 1,800 miles (about 2,800 km) on the odometer when it showed up on Cars & Bids. The final sale price? $80,000.

Considering that a new M850i starts at $107,300, and this one was optioned up to around $115,000, not including several thousand dollars in extras like the wrap, which pushed the seller’s total closer to $120,000 before taxes and fees, that’s a steep drop in value after less than five months on the road.
No doubt, the original owner took a serious financial hit, but the buyer walked away with a pretty sweet deal. Sure, this isn’t the full-blown M8, but even a base 840i Coupe starts at $91,700. Compared to that, the M850i offers more power, sharper performance, and significantly more curb appeal.
This M850i xDrive Coupe is finished in standard Carbon Black but has been wrapped in satin gray, a $3,350 job according to the receipt provided by the owner. The interior features BMW’s Tartufo and Black full Merino leather, a $2,000 option, along with the available carbon fiber roof. Beyond the wrap, the car has had its original exhaust resonator removed and is fitted with aftermarket wheel spacers.
Driving the M850i is BMW’s N63 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. This power is sent through all four wheels thanks to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The uber-luxurious two-door needs just 3.6 seconds to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) and looks oh-so-sexy while doing so.
It’s hard not to wonder how long cars like this will stick around. Big, thirsty V8s wrapped in luxury coupe bodies don’t exactly scream “future-proof” in an age of EV mandates and downsizing. But for now, if you’ve got a soft spot for fast, overbuilt German hardware and an eye for a good deal, the used market is quietly becoming a playground. Just maybe don’t be the first one to buy in.
