• Vinile will upgrade the original 3.5-liter, 3.9-liter, and 4.3-liter V8s.
  • Moreover, the interior will be upholstered in plush new Baxter leather.
  • The Italian company already has five production sites and 100 staff.

Just when you thought the restomod well had finally run dry, another contender has popped up—this time from Italy, because of course it has. A newly formed company called Vinile, based in Maranello, has unveiled its take on the Range Rover Classic, the iconic SUV built from 1969 to 1996. The plan? Produce just 15 fully customizable builds, with prices starting at €280,000 (about $309,000 at current rates) before you even think about adding extras.

The company is being led by three local entrepreneurs and, despite its recent arrival on the scene, it says that it already boasts a staff of 100 and five production sites. Work on its debut project is still ongoing, so for now, Vinile is teasing the finished product through a series of digital renderings. As with most restomods, the goal here is to enhance performance and bring in high-end materials and tech without erasing the original vehicle’s character.

Powertrains With a Nod to the Past

Vinile says its Range Rover models will be available with the original 3.5-liter, 3.9-liter, and 4.3-liter V8 engines, although all will be updated and will produce around 200 hp. So far, Vinile hasn’t made any mention of whether it will completely strip back the SUV to the original chassis and completely rebuild it.

What we do know is that it will craft new body panels for the iconic British 4×4 and add new grilles. It will also install custom wing mirrors, new bumpers, and 16-inch aftermarket wheels clad in 245/70 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires.

So, if you own the original Range Rover and still cherish it despite its age but would like to have modern amenities and a luxurious interior, and can afford to splurge more than 300 grand, Vinile will be more than happy to hear from you. Then again, maybe for that kind of money you’d rather go for something much more exotic like a brand-spanking new Ferrari, Porsche or McLaren – unless, of course, you really love your Range Rover and, possibly, already have a supercar or two in your garage for pure driving thrills.

High-Tech Meets Old-School Charm

The interior will also be overhauled, aiming to replicate the feel and comfort of a lounge. Vinile will clad the seats, steering wheel, dashboard, and door panels in premium Baxter leather. There will also be a solid-milled center console and burl wood on the door trims, as well as switchgear inspired by helicopters and an area in the dashboard that can hold the owner’s watch.

Perhaps the standout feature of the Range Rover Classic’s revised cabin is the free-standing 10.1-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Each example will come equipped with a custom audio system using two subwoofers, ten Focal speakers, and three Rockford amplifiers.

So, if the original Range Rover still pulls at your enthusiast heartstrings but you’re after the kind of refinement and comfort no stock ’80s SUV could ever deliver, Vinile might be worth a look. That said, with a starting price north of $300,000, this isn’t aimed at casual nostalgists, it’s more likely to appeal to collectors with a supercar or two already in rotation, or those with a deep, possibly incurable love for classic Land Rovers.
