• The German wagon has a paint scheme inspired by the Audi 90 Quattro IMSA racer.
  • Tweaks to the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 allow it to pump out 621 hp and 627 lb-ft.
  • The limited-run RS6 Avant is more than $70,000 more expensive than a standard RS6.

The Audi RS6 Avant has always been one of the finest performance wagons on the planet, a rare breed that blends family-hauling practicality with serious power. So when Audi finally brought it to the States in 2020, American enthusiasts understandably lost their minds.

The standard RS6 is already a beast, but Audi decided that wasn’t quite wild enough, which brings us to the Performance GT you see here. It’s a limited-run variant that takes the formula to the next level. Only 85 units were allocated to the States, making it one of the most exclusive Audi wagons ever sold here on these shores.

Inspired by the legendary Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car, the RS6 Avant GT doesn’t just lean into nostalgia, it grabs it with both hands and floors the accelerator. Starting at an eye-watering $198,900, this model costs more than $70,000 over the base RS6. And yet, demand hasn’t been a problem. Apparently, exclusivity and throwback liveries are still very much in style.

One of these ultra-rare cars in the US with 31 miles on the clock traded hands for $256,000. It was auctioned off through Bring a Trailer and sold by Graham Rahal Performance, the dealership owned by IndyCar driver Graham Rahal. It had an original sticker price of $201,750. That means the seller walked away with a neat $55,000 profit for what was a delivery mileage collector’s item.

Yes, the most immediately noticeable feature is the aggressive retro-inspired livery, but the RS6 GT’s upgrades go beyond aesthetics. It rides on bespoke 22-inch white wheels that shave off a respectable 88 pounds (40 kg) of unsprung weight. Audi also fitted new carbon fiber fenders and a reworked hood, setting this version apart from the already-impressive standard model.

Audi’s engineers made meaningful tweaks to the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8. Power climbs to 621 horsepower and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque, gains of 30 hp and 37 lb-ft over the base RS6. That translates to a 0–60 mph (96 km/h) time of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph (306 km/h). In short, this isn’t just a prettier RS6, it’s a quicker, sharper version of a car that was already borderline ridiculous.
