• The base Continental GT can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.7 seconds.
  • Bentley’s plug-in hybrid V8 gives the trio up to 53 miles (85 km) of electric range.
  • New Azure models have been added to the range with distinctive styling.

If you’ve been eyeing a Bentley but don’t need the earth-tilting force of a 771-horsepower engine, there’s good news: the brand has just unveiled a slightly more restrained, but still seriously potent, option for its Continental GT, Continental GT Convertible, and Flying Spur models.

Bentley’s new High Performance Hybrid powertrain slots just below the Speed and Mulliner variants, offering a more balanced blend of luxury and electrified muscle. Don’t let the ‘hybrid’ badge fool you into thinking it’s tame, though.

This system pairs a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with an electric motor to deliver a combined 671 horsepower and 686 lb-ft (930 Nm) of torque. While it’s missing 100 horses from the flagship plug-in V8 Bentley now offers, this new ‘entry level’ powertrain still outperforms the old W12 mill used in the previous-generation Speed models.

On a straight line, the new Continental GT with this 671-hp hybrid powertrain can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds, while the slightly heavier Continental GT Convertible requires 3.9 seconds. The Flying Spur also needs 3.9 seconds to hit the same mark.

Importantly, owners will be able to drive around in silence, with the regular GT good for 53 miles (85 km) on electric power, while the GTC promises 51 miles (82 km) of silent running.

Alongside the introduction of the new powertrain, Bentley has introduced new Azure versions of all three models. They come standard with a distinctive gloss black matrix grille featuring a chrome surround and 11 vertical slats. Bentley has also installed a new black front splitter and created a set of 22-inch wheels that ooze style and wealth.

The Continental GT, GTC, and Flying Spur Azure models come standard with Bentley’s ‘Wellness’ seating with heated, ventilated, and massage functions. There are also new embroidered headrests, mood lighting, and open-pore crown cut walnut veneer trim. Illuminated treadplates have also been added, and the Touring, Comfort, and Lighting Specification packages come as standard. Droptop models also come standard with an in-built neck warmer, allowing owners to drive around in cold weather with the roof down.

Pricing details haven’t been announced, but models equipped with this new High Performance Hybrid powertrain are expected to cost about £35,000 (~$44,700) less than equivalent models with the 771 hp powertrain, starting from  £202,400 in the UK.
